The chart-topping success of Adele‘s “21” earns her another mention in the 2016 Guinness World Records. Who could forget 2012 when she scooped up these three GWR awards?
*First female to have two singles and two albums in the UK Top 5 simultaneously – previously achieved by The Beatles in 1963 – and “21” was also the first album in UK chart history to reach sales of three million in a calendar year.
*Adele’s “21” album also established new records for the most consecutive weeks with UK No.1 album (solo female) with 11 weeks at the top – breaking Madonna‘s 1991 record with “The Immaculate Collection”.
*Most cumulative weeks with UK No.1 album (solo female) with “21” spending a total of 18 weeks at No.1 – surpassing records held by Alanis Morissette and Shania Twain, who shared the title with 11 weeks at No.1.
Adele receives mention in the GWR 2016 release for the 11 consecutive weeks that “21” (2011) by Adele (UK) topped the UK albums chart, the longest-running UK No. 1 album in the 21st century.
